چکیده

In this paper we present an incremental formulation of the phase field model for a fluid filled crack in a poroelastic medium. The mathematical model represents a linear elasticity system with fading elastic moduli as the crack grows that is coupled with an elliptic variational inequality for the phase field variable. The convex constraint of the variational inequality assures the irreversibility and entropy compatibility of the crack formation. We establish existence of a minimizer of an energy functional of an incremental problem and convergence of a finite dimensional approximation. Computational results of benchmark problems are provided that demonstrate the effectiveness of this approach in treating fracture propagation.

A Phase-Field Method for Propagating Fluid-Filled Fractures Coupled to a Surrounding Porous Medium

The recently introduced phase-field approach for pressurized fractures in a porous medium offers various attractive computational features for numerical simulations of cracks such as joining, branching, and non-planar propagation in possibly heterogeneous media. In this study, the pressurized phase-field framework is extended to fluid-filled fractures in which the pressure is computed from a ge...

Stress field changes and faulting regimes analysis for determining fault reactivation possibility in cap rock and reservoir due to production & pressurized in Aghajari Oil Field - Iran̓s South West

Production and injection of fluid may cause hydraulic fracture, shear fracture at crack levels, or re-activation of faults and existing discontinuities by reducing effective stress by changing the pore pressure and corresponding changes in the stress field. Therefore, the deformation of the earth, seismic occurred, the reactivation of discontinuities and the impermeability capacity of the rocks...

Plane Strain Deformation of a Poroelastic Half-Space Lying Over Another Poroelastic Half-Space

The plane strain deformation of an isotropic, homogeneous, poroelastic medium caused by an inclined line-load is studied using the Biot linearized theory for fluid saturated porous materials. The analytical expressions for the displacements and stresses in the medium are obtained by applying suitable boundary conditions. The solutions are obtained analytically for the limiting case of undrained...

Spherical Wave Propagation in a Poroelastic Medium with Infinite Permeability: Time Domain Solution

Exact time domain solutions for displacement and porepressure are derived for waves emanating from a pressurized spherical cavity, in an infinitely permeable poroelastic medium with a permeable boundary. Cases for blast and exponentially decaying step pulse loadings are considered; letter case, in the limit as decay constant goes to zero, also covers the step (uniform) pressure. Solutions clear...
